Pharmacies (farmaci) are easy to find in central Vlora and along the main streets. What is harder is the middle of the night — here is what we know, and what we could not verify.

Finding a pharmacy
Look for the word FARMACI above the door, usually with a green cross. Central Vlora — the streets around Flag Square and the roads down to the Lungomare — has plenty, and so do the main roads into the city and the beach areas to the south. A map app searched for “farmaci” is the quickest way to see what is open near you.
The map shows pharmacies others have mapped and their listed hours — not which one is on night duty. Call before you go late at night.
Pharmacists can usually advise on minor problems — sunburn, insect bites and stings, stomach upsets, colds — and tell you when you need a doctor instead. Many speak some English or Italian.
Late at night
Opening hours vary by pharmacy and by season, and some keep long hours in summer.
At night, try in this order:
- Ask your hotel or host — they usually know which pharmacy is open late.
- Check a maps app for pharmacies marked “open now”, then call before you go.
- Look at the notice on a closed pharmacy’s door, which sometimes names the one on duty.
- If it cannot wait, go to the emergency department at Vlora Regional Hospital — and for anything serious, call 112 or 127.
Bringing and buying medicines
- Bring enough of any regular medicine for the whole trip, in its original packaging, with a copy of the prescription. UK advice notes that the legal status of some medicines differs between countries.
- Brand names change from country to country: know the generic (active ingredient) name of what you take.
- Sunscreen, after-sun, insect repellent and basic first aid are sold in pharmacies and supermarkets.
- Drink bottled water — UK advice is not to drink the tap water in Albania.
