Sazan is the island you see on the horizon from the Lungomare. A closed military base for most of the 20th century, it is now part of the Karaburun–Sazan National Marine Park and can be visited on organised boat trips in the summer season. There are no hotels, no permanent residents and no overnight stays — the appeal is exactly that.
Most trips combine Sazan with the Karaburun Peninsula, the long mountainous arm that closes the western side of Vlora Bay. Boats typically stop for swimming in coves that are unreachable by road, and many include the Haxhi Ali sea cave at the tip of the peninsula.
Trips run from the Vlora waterfront and the marina area in the morning; departures and routes depend on sea conditions on the day. The live camera gives you a genuine visual check of the bay before you commit.
